Water Efficient

I spent some time rerouting the barn drain gutters to catch rain water to irrigate inside the greenhouse. Using materials that we already had kept the cost at $0.

Wintertime organization and chicken chasing

I’ve been spending the winter time organizing the woodshop and all donated materials. This gives us a better opportunity of knowing what we have so we can build more gardens.
A little bit of time is also spent catching and clipping the wings of chickens that feel brazen enough to jump the fence. If you’ve ever seen the movie “Chicken run”, I AM A BELIEVER.

New Chicks

We have already given away app. 30 dozen eggs this year. These new additions will help us to provide so much more. Thank you to Immaculate Conception, Douglassville for the donation of these chicks.

The first of the new elevated gardens are made and seeds are sprouting!

We plan to construct more of these. With all the rain, it has been very helpful because the excess water just drains through the bottom. They are also high enough to keep the rabbits out. Thanks to Lawrence for the Donation of the construction materials.

So it was an interesting weekend: I spent last week getting the green house roof on and in shape. Then during our Bible Study on Friday night, a wicked storm came through, ripped half of the roof off the greenhouse and through it about 25 ft in the air where it landed (completely in tack) on top of the roof of our barn. I got up there Saturday (in the wind) took it apart and will be putting it back together today. Life keeps it interesting!

In the past month we have built a new and larger pen for the geese, the field has been planted with a cover crop to start the spring, and we have generally been getting ready for planting.
